Game Sites

Smallworld Baseball. 'Nuff said.

Swirve.com Fantasy Baseball. An interesting twist on the typical salary cap game. Player prices change daily, and you must choose whether to sign players to short or long term contracts. Game administration and server reliability are among the steadiest in the business.

MadBall. The framework of this game was conceived by "Madman" at the RotoGuru message forum, and the game is administered by Gleem.net. This is a simple yet fun game in which you have a limited budget to spend on picking daily MLB winners. Team prices are based on their YTD winning percentages. Each month starts a fresh contest. It's a nice diversion that lets you focus on teams, rather than players. Daily standings are posted at the RotoGuru message forum.

Pick'Ems. A "pick the winners" game that combines a number of competitions within the general framework. Administered by Gleem.com, and a favorite of many Gurupies. Daily standings are posted at the RotoGuru message forum.

[cyberskipper banner] CyberSkipper. FREE fantasy ball. 30 CyberSkipper games. One for each big league team. No draft. Join any time. Form your own leagues. More than 1000 prizes. Very unique framework.

Grand Slam Baseball. GSB is rather unique as while it uses real names, it is completely fictional. The skill attributes of the players are all randomly generated. It runs on an accelerated schedule where one month of real time is one full major league season. As an owner you are in charge of the entire organization. You are responsible for such things as the draft, signing players from independent leagues, moving players up through the farm system so that they will continue to improve, as well as Major League responsibilities such as trades, contracts, free agency, and of course lineups.

Stats and Support Sites

RotoWire - The successor site to RotoNews. This site should be part of everyday's morning routine. The links to the hometown newspapers of each team are particularly useful when you want more local color.

As a supplement to RotoWire information, I usually check ESPN's daily transactions listing. This generally shows who was sent up or down, and who was placed on the disabled list, or activated from it.

John Skilton's Baseball Links - Thousands of baseball links arranged by category. If you're hunting for something, this is the first place to look.

Yahoo! Baseball Stats - A full range of stats, including an easy to import fantasy stats download file (in comma delimited text format) which is updated every day.

The Sporting News - Useful and current information on each major league team. If you're wondering who's playing their way into or out of a lineup, this is a particularly good place to check.

Baseball Prospectus Online A great site for baseball geeks. Lots of statistical analysis and projections, some with fantasy sports in mind, and some just devoted to enhancing understanding of the game. You can spend a lot of time poking around here.

CBS Sportsline
- A full range of fantasy sports coverage, including games, news, and excellent sortable stats, listed in an easy to import, tabular format. Also, you can check projected pitching matchups for the next 7 days at their Probable Pitchers pages.

USA Today Baseball: a good source of news, stats, and occasional fantasy features. Spring training stats are tracked for each team, which can be a big help in setting up your draft.

Baseball America Online: as one Gurupie puts it, "Top prospects from every organization and minor league player highlights updated daily! I have fifty places to go for yesterday's stats, I want to know the name of the guy putting up the numbers tommorrow!

Basics of Baseball - When all else fails, read the instruction manual. If you're interested in the rules regarding saves or holds, check these links supplied by Rob Neyer.

Media Tech Productions provides some cool animated sports images for free, as long as I give them a free link - so I did.
