11/27 - If your weekend fantasy football opponent started Cam Newton, hopefully you had a big lead going in. Newton had what was arguably his best game as a pro, with 306 passing yards, 52 rushing yards, 4 TDs (2 passing, 2 rushing), and no turnovers. Using traditional fantasy scoring, that’s 37.44 points. Last year’s best was in week 13, when he had 38.76 points. If you use 6 pts for a passing TD (instead of 4), then both of those games were slightly over 40 points.

Football Pickoff produced 55% positive scores this week, although no one came close to running the table. The best score was +435 by Chattanooga Chuggers, who picked 13/16 correctly.

11/20 - Consensus Favorites came through big in Football Pickoff this weekend, claiming 13 of 14 games – St. Louis being the only casualty (vs. the Jets). The top slate of the weekend was even better, a 14-0 whitewashing from perennial GuruGolf frontrunner tedlite.

The Knicks@Brooklyn NBA game that was postponed immediately after Sandy will be played on Nov. 26. When planning ahead, make sure your schedule reflects that game.

11/19 - It’s really hard to watch the Steelers when they wear those striped throwback uniforms.

The Houston defense really seemed like the “low hanging fruit” pickup of the week, playing at home vs. Jacksonville. As the saying goes, “Oops.”

Last week, I added an abbreviated stat line for each NBA player in the daily point summary. For example, check out today’s listing for DraftStreet. Regardless of the scoring system, I’ve created a descriptive string of stats. Whether you’re playing any daily contests or not, you might find this to be a useful summary page to review. If you’d prefer a listing showing positions of PG-SG-SF-PF-C (instead of generic G-F-C), you could use the FanDuel listing. Similar links for each of the affiliated daily contest sites are located in the Hoops section of the left menu panel.

11/13 - It was a balanced week in Football Pickoff, with an equal number of positive and negative scores. Seven slates picked 11 games correctly, with the top score of 439 shared by two different slates.

I’m in two traditional fantasy football leagues (one is the RIFC), and both of those teams had a QB bye this week (Aaron Rodgers and RG3). In hindsight, this was probably a good week not to have a primary QB on the field, as three were “concussed”, and several others were knocked out of games with injuries. QB depth may suddenly become very important – in fantasy play, as well as the NFL in general.

I’ve been slowly rounding the hoops stats into shape. A couple of minor glitches have been detected and corrected in the past few days. I thought about rearranging the selection criteria menus for the sortable stats (bringing all of the available filters to the top), but after trying that, I decided that the display was just too top-heavy with selection criteria, especially when most of those filters are set once per session and then left alone. So, just realize that if you want to evaluate only players who have games on a single day (as is customary for daily contest analysis), you’ll need to scroll to the bottom and set the schedule filter to exclude players with less than 1 game over the next 1 day. Of course, you can also set that filter to look ahead for more than a single game day.

11/7 - I’m getting there!

I’ve now got sortable hoops stats up and running for the three affiliated daily contest sites (FanDuel, DraftStreet, and Daily Joust). I hope to have StartStreet added within the next few days. Daily point listings are also available for each of the games. See the links in the Hoops section of the left menu. I’ll have more to say about the various game sites in the next several weeks.

Football Pickoff once again coughed up some points last weekend, with 64% of slates producing positive scores, headed by hamed, who rode 13 correct picks to 671 points, missing only the Seattle win over Minnesota. That means he also takes the early lead in the midseason contest, which started with week #9.

11/5 - Well, that was a busted week! RotoGuru World headquarters lost power on Monday, and it wasn’t restored until Thursday night. On Friday, I headed off on a weekend trip to Rochester for the memorial service of an uncle of mine who recently passed away. While I was operationally incapacitated and otherwise distracted, the NBA season started. I was planning to finish preparations for hoops stats production on Tuesday and Wednesday, but that didn’t get done – and still hasn’t been done. I’m hopeful to get caught up in the next day or two, but after being waylaid for a week, there are other things beside hoops that demand some attention. So, please be patient as I work my way back into some sort of normalcy.
