Daily blurbs from the Guru If this is your first visit to this site, you should first stop by my home page to find out what this site is all about. And please support this site's advertisers. They make free sites like this one possible. Go forward to more recent blurbs. 1/14 - No Football Pickoff slate had all four games picked correctly. The top score of the week was +228 from HooeyPoo, who doubled Baltimore over Denver, but then didn’t know when to quit when he picked Houston over the Patriots. Only one slate had all four games picked incorrectly, however. Heading into Conference Championship week, Balrog is hanging on to a slight lead, now 34 points. Just two weeks ago, that lead was 375, which had to feel pretty secure. Now he’s just hoping to channel his inner Falcon and eke out a late win. And since neither of the top two contenders can afford to coast at this point, the third and fourth place teams also come into the picture. It reminds me of Final Jeopardy in those situations when the top two contestants are close in score, thereby creating an opportunity for the third place contestant to vault ahead if both of the top two falter. By the way, the midseason contest is really close, with only 9 points separating the top two, and only 101 points separating the top five. 1/7 - The Wildcard playoff round went very normally, with three of the four home teams winning. Twenty-five slates in Football Pickoff had all four favorites correctly picked. Only six slates missed all four games. Curiously, one of the latter was full season leader Balrog, whose apparently comfortable lead narrowed to only 163 points. With seven games remaining to be picked (three which can be doubled), it’s still a contest. 1/4 - Wow! More than two weeks have elapsed since my last blurb. I’ve really become a slacker. Hopefully my boss won’t notice. As we head into the 16th year of RotoGuru.com, I need to set the stage for coming attractions:
